2011 Summer School Program/Agenda

Our program is designed to provide an essential background in the basics of cyber security, and in the traditional generation, transmission, and distribution systems of the power grid. Participants will gain an understanding of how the power grid is evolving into a smarter energy system with an emphasis on associated cyber security challenges.

INL Hands-on Lab: Intermediate SCADA Security

This year, participants will have the option of registering for a hands-on SCADA Security Lab led by Idaho National Laboratory. The lab is structured to help participants understand exactly how attacks against SCADA systems could be launched and why they work. Participants will also learn mitigation strategies to improve the cyber security posture of control system networks. Because the lab is hands-on, participants receive a deeper understanding of how the various tools work. Information security personnel, SCADA security personnel, network engineers, SCADA engineers/integrators, and developers would greatly benefit from this lab. A limited number of seats are available and will be assigned on a first-registered, first-served basis. Preference will be given to those registering for the full week of the Summer School.

Lab participants will need to bring a PC laptop with a DVD drive and administrtor access/privileges. Participants must be able to boot a DVD and run a RAM image on the laptop. Please also visit the INL course website for more information about the Scada Security curriculum and course pre-requisites.

Networking Reception

Participants will also have ample opportunity to connect and network with leading experts, researchers, and practitioners in fields that address cyber security for smart energy systems.

Continuing Education Credits (CEUs)

The University of Illinois Office of Continuing Education offers one CEU for every 10 hours of participation in workshop activities at the TCIPG Summer School. Full week participants can earn a maximum of 3.2 CEUs. Please indicate during registration if you want to receive CEUs for your participation.
