The Trustworthy Cyber Infrastructure for the Power Grid (TCIPG) center is excited to offer our third summer school, to be held June 17-21, 2013! We invite and encourage utility and industry practitioners, researchers, and students to attend and explore the nexus between electrical energy systems and cybersecurity.

sponsor sidebar list Our summer school program is designed to provide an essential background in the basics of security and resiliency for cyber infrastructure in power and smart grids. Participants will also gain an understanding of the smarter energy system evolving from the power grid, as well as associated cybersecurity challenges. Experts from industry, national labs, academia, and government will lead sessions that include industrial case studies and examples from current research. A Lightning Talk Session will feature 5-minute pitches from select summer school participants about bold, new ideas for research activities, products, or outreach. Deep dive sessions will partner industry and academic experts to explore critical security topics in depth. An optional hands-on SCADA security assessment training lab will be offered to a limited number of participants on a first-registered, first-served basis. An Ameren Smart Grid Training Platform will be onsite that offers participants an opportunity to observe a mobile unit that is designed to train Ameren employees on equipment and technologies that are being deployed and energized on the utility grid. A networking reception will also offer participants additional opportunity to connect with leading experts, researchers, and practitioners in fields that address cybersecurity and resiliency for smart energy systems.

This year’s summer school will be held at the Q Center, which is located on a 95-acre wooded property on the Fox River in St. Charles, Illinois and just a 45-minute drive from Chicago's O'Hare International Airport. A limited number of on-site rooms are available. Participants are encouraged to secure their on-site accommodations using the Q Center reservation portal provided for this event. Participants lodging at the Q Center will be provided breakfast, lunch, and dinner during their stay. Lunch will be provided for commuters and participants choosing off-site lodging accommodations.

The summer school complements research and other educational activities at TCIPG, which is funded by the U.S. Department of Energy and U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Our center brings together researchers from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Cornell University, Dartmouth College, the University of California at Davis, and Washington State University.
