Thomas J. Overbye

Professor Thomas J. Overbye is the Fox Family Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he has taught since 1991. He received his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. His current research interests include electric power system analysis, visualization, dynamics, and cyber security. Overbye is also the original developer of the PowerWorld Simulator, an innovative computer program for power system analysis, education, and visualization. He was a co-founder of the PowerWorld Corporation and is an author of the book Power System Analysis and Design. He was also the recipient of the IEEE PES Walter Fee Outstanding Young Engineer Award in 1993 and the IEEE PES Outstanding Power Engineering Educator Award in 2011. He participated in the August 14th 2003 DOE/NERC Blackout investigation.
