Many thanks to our sponsors!

With support from the U.S. Department of Energy and U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the Trustworthy Cyber Infrastructure for the Power Grid (TCIPG) center is proud to present the Cyber Security for Smart Energy Systems Summer School. Practitioners, researchers, and graduate students are invited to attend and explore the nexus between electrical energy systems and cyber security.

The Summer School program is designed to provide an essential background in the basics of cyber security, and in the traditional generation, transmission, and distribution systems of the power grid. Participants will gain an understanding of how the power grid is evolving into a smarter energy system with an emphasis on associated cyber security challenges. Experts from industry, national labs, academia, and government will lead sessions that include case studies from industry and examples from current research. Idaho National Laboratory will also offer an optional, hands-on SCADA Security Lab. Labs will be offered Tuesday and Thursday and will be limited to 40 participants each day on a first-registered, first-served basis. A Networking Reception on Wednesday will offer participants an opportunity to connect with leading experts, researchers, and practitioners in fields that address cyber security for smart energy systems.

The Summer School will be held June 13-17, 2011 at the Q Center (1405 North Fifth Avenue, St. Charles, IL 60174), which is located on a 95-acre wooded property on the Fox River in St. Charles, Illinois, just a 45-minute drive from Chicago's O'Hare International Airport. Lodging and meals will be provided by the Q Center, and participants should register separately for those accommodations.

The Cyber Security for Smart Energy Systems Summer School complements the other research and educational activities of TCIPG. TCIPG is funded by DOE and DHS. The center brings together researchers from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Cornell University, Dartmouth College, the University of California at Davis, and Washington State University.

Continuing Education Credits (CEUs): The University of Illinois Office of Continuing Education offers one CEU for every 10 hours of participation in workshop activities at the TCIPG Summer School. Full week participants can earn a maximum of 3.2 CEUs. Please indicate during registration if you want to receive CEUs for your participation.
